Tamil language

Image
Tamil:  These sent to Beta Analytic in Miami, Florida for Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) dating. Tamil belongs to the southern branch of the Dravidian languages, a family of around 26 languages native to the Indian subcontinent of Deccan. Some of these urns contained writing in Tamil Brahmi script, and some contained skeletons of Tamil origin. Between 2017 and 2018, 5,820 artifacts have been found in Keezhadi. One sample containing Tamil-Brahmi inscriptions was claimed to be dated to around 580 BC. Legend: Explanation for Mangalam Tamil Brahmi inscription in Mangalam, Madurai district, Tamil Nadu, dated to Tamil Sangam period (c. Even though the name of the language which was developed by these Tamil Sangam's is mentioned as Tamil, the period when the name "Tamil" came to be applied to the language is unclear, as is the precise etymology of the name.  Tamil Brahmi script in the reverse side of the bilingual silver coin of king Vashisht Putra Satakirti (c. 400 BC to c...

Butterfly

Image
Butterfly: They can see polarized light and therefore orient even in cloudy conditions. These migrations take place over a number of generations and no single individual completes the whole trip. The long proboscis can be coiled when not in use for sipping nectar from flowers. Nearly all butterflies are diurnal, have relatively bright colors, and hold their wings vertically above their bodies when at rest, unlike the majority of moths which fly by night, are often cryptically colored (well camouflaged), and either hold their wings flat (touching the surface on which the moth is standing) or fold them closely over their bodies. Simple photoreceptor cells located at the genitals are important for this and other adult behaviors. The male passes a spermatophore to the female; to reduce sperm competition, he may cover her with his scent, or in some species such as the Apollos (Parnassias) plugs her genital opening to prevent her from mating again. The vast majority of butterflies have a fou...

Blue color

Image
Blue: The semi-precious stone lapis lazuli was used in ancient Egypt for jeweler and ornament and later, in the Renaissance, to make the pigment ultramarine, the most expensive of all pigments. Distant objects appear bluer because of another optical effect called aerial perspective. Blue has been an important color in art and decoration since ancient times. In the 19th century, synthetic blue dyes and pigments gradually replaced organic dyes and mineral pigments. In US and European public opinion polls it is the most popular color, chosen by almost half of both men and women as their favorite color. Blue is one of the three primary colors in the RYB color model (traditional color theory), as well as in the RGB (additive) colors model. An optical effect called Tyndall effect explains blue eyes. It lies between violet and cyan on the spectrum of visible light. Europeans wore clothing colored with the vegetable dye woad until it was replaced by the finer indigo from America. In the ...

Moon

Image
MOON: Such influences can be found in language, calendar systems, art, and mythology. The lunar surface is fairly non-reflective, with the reflectance of lunar soil being comparable to that of asphalt. The near side of the Moon is marked by dark volcanic maria ("seas"), which fill the spaces between bright ancient crustal highlands and prominent impact craters. The Moon is tidally locked to Earth, which means that the length of a full rotation of the Moon on its own axis causes its same side (the near side) to always face Earth, and the somewhat longer lunar day is the same as the synodic period. It then receded to a wider orbit because of tidal interaction with the Earth. It lacks any significant atmosphere, hydrosphere, or magnetic field. The Moon is a planetary-mass object with a differentiated rocky body, making it a satellite planet under the geophysical definitions of the term and larger than all known dwarf planets of the Solar System. The Moon is the only celestial b...

Engineering

Image
ENGINEERING The word "engine" itself is of even older origin, ultimately deriving from the Latin ingenium, meaning "innate quality, especially mental power, hence a clever invention." Later, as the design of civilian structures, such as bridges and buildings, matured as a technical discipline, the term civil engineering entered the lexicon as a way to distinguish between those specializing in the construction of such non-military projects and those involved in the discipline of military engineering. Notable examples of the obsolete usage which have survived to the present day are military engineering corps, e.g., the U.S. In this context, now obsolete, an "engine" referred to a military machine, i.e., a mechanical contraption used in war (for example, a catapult). Engineering has existed since ancient times, when humans devised inventions such as the wedge, lever, wheel and pulley, etc. The term engineering is derived from the word engineer, which itself d...

Education

Image
EDUCATION Peters have proposed precise definitions by spelling out the necessary and sufficient conditions of education, for example: it is concerned with the transmission of knowledge and understanding this transmission is worthwhile and done in a morally appropriate manner in tune with the student's interests. This and similar attempts are often successful at characterizing the most paradigmatic forms of education but have received numerous criticisms nonetheless, usually in the form of specific counterexamples for which the proposed criteria fail. These difficulties have led various theorists to develop less precise conceptions based on family resemblance. Teacher-centered definitions focus on the perspective and role of the teacher, for example, in ...

Reading books

Image
READING BOOKS  And the surprises and gems in this are never ending. The world of reading books is equally endless. Once that is done, a new world opens out to you. From ancient times, whatever knowledge has been acquired, and recorded, about any subject under the sun, you will find in books. The key to this treasure chest lies in acquiring the skill to read. Books are like a treasure, sometimes a treasure of knowledge, sometimes of learning new skills and sometimes of entertainment. Criminals reading spiritual books in prison have been known to become saints. Of course for children, reading books starts with seeing the pictures in the pictures books. Reading books have been known to change lives. Slowly as they learn letters, words and the words start making sense, the excitement and the sense of achievement grows and then there’s no looking back. This goes particularly for children as they learn languages. When one learns a new language, the most useful thing to do apart from tryi...
